"By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ."
-Catechism of the Catholic Church (1499)
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is no longer referred to as "Extreme Unction" or "Last Rites." The request for the anointing should not be delayed until the "bitter end" and anointing does not signify that "the end is near." One should request to be anointed as soon as he becomes in danger, for example upon entering a hospital, so that he can benefit from the grace of the sacrament in persevering through the difficulty.
Please contact Fr. Hardesty at: (502) 314-4131 if anyone is in danger due to sickness or old age, or is preparing for surgery, and wishes to be anointed.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are available to bring Communion to the homebound.
