Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and in the word."

Baptisms are scheduled as-needed. At St. Catherine, baptisms usually take place during or immediately after the 10am Sunday morning Mass or on another day if necessary. Parents and Godparents (if possible) are asked to attend one preparation class with the Pastor before the Baptism. This class is about 45min long and can be scheduled at the convenience of the family. Please contact the office at 502-549-3680.
Godparents should be chosen not primarily on the basis of family relationship or friendship but on their Catholic Christian witness. Godparents should be active, faithful, practicing Catholics "in good standing." This means that are not in an irregular marriage, they attend Mass every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation, they go to confession periodically, and are involved in the life of a parish. They provide a secondary example to the child, in addition to the parents, for what it means and looks like to be a faithful Catholic.
